This dynamic one day course examines the specific responsibilities of correctional officers and explores the true potential for violence in the correctional institution. This course uses specific case studies and videos to help you examine the criminal thought process and will teach you to successfully detect pre-attack indicators, read body language and link your mindset to your performance. This course will give you a detailed insight into the potential for violence in the correctional institution and cover important life-saving information including:
- Roles and responsibilities of the correctional officer
- The importance of verbal and non-verbal communication
- Understanding violent encounters and the training you need to win
- Understanding and interpreting pre-attack indicators
- Developing techniques for physical and mental peak performance
- Low, moderate and high custody considerations
- High security inmate escorts and transports
- Less-lethal and deadly force decision making
- Escalation and de-escalation during use of force encounters
- Your institutional integrity
- Understanding stress and your performance
Who should attend:Any person whose responsibilities include securing, processing, escorting, supervising or transporting incarcerated subjects in their capacity as a law enforcement officer, corrections officer, transportation officer, private security officer or civilian employee within a correctional facility.
